Qualifications: System Operation is looking to hire a dedicated, self
motivated individual to join the Bulk Power Team as an Energy Dispatcher. The
selected candidate must be flexible with the ability to handle multiple
assignments. Must have good verbal and written communications skills and the
ability to interact with personnel on all levels. Requires at least 3 years
experience in an electrical or steam generation operating environment to
include experience in electric Bulk Power, Distribution System operation, or
Power Generation (either electric or steam generation plants). Field experience
in an electric and/or steam maintenance organization maybe an acceptable
substitute for operating experience. Applicants must have a thorough
understanding in the operation of Fossil Power Plants, as well as an
understanding of and proven experience with the concepts of electric power
systems, system operation, and steam generation systems. Requires a Bachelors
degree and 3 years experience as noted above. In lieu of a Bachelors degree, a
HS diploma and 7 years of experience as noted above is acceptable. Must have
working knowledge of personal computers and/or mainframe computer systems.

Experience with, and a demonstrated knowledge of the New York Independent
System Operator (NYISO) electric energy markets is preferred. Applicants with
Bachelors degree are preferred. The position requires a criminal background
check to satisfy NERC critical infrastructure protection requirements. The
S&TO organization pays particular attention to the attendance and
performance records of all applicants. Heavy emphasis is also given to those
candidates that have greater than 24 months tenure in their current role.
Applicants who do not meet this threshold may not be considered.

This is a fixed post, full rotating position. This position requires both
physical and psychological examinations.

Responsibilities: This candidate is responsible to maintain the
reliability and security of the Con Edison electric and steam systems.
Coordinate operation of the Con Edison Bulk Power Electric System and the Steam
System, by monitoring generation resources required to meet the anticipated
load of the electric and steam systems. Operate and dispatch the Con Edison
steam system in a manner that assures steam system reliability and quality
commitment to steam system consumers. Coordinate and control operations
associated with steam system equipment outages, including the review and
approval of all scheduled and unscheduled outage requests on the Steam System.
This includes “Sole Authority” control and coordination of
removal/restoration of steam system resources directly connecting steam
generation facilities to the steam transmission and distribution systems.
Coordinate the commitment, dispatch, and operation of the control area electric
and steam generation by the NYISO. Coordinate operations between the Company’s
Energy Control Center (ECC) and the NYISO. Coordinate operations between the
ECC and Steam Operations. Assist the Senior System Operator in reviewing the NYISO
commitment of generation resources to meet control area reliability
requirements. Assist the System Operator in the operation of the Bulk Power
System by monitoring electric system parameters and critical measuring and
recording systems. Maintain documentation such as the NYISO Daily Report and
process the Day Ahead Operating Plan. Monitor critical computer systems that
are used to control and monitor the Bulk Power System and the Steam System.
Coordinate electric/steam operations with District Operation Department.
Continually monitor the status of the Bulk Power electric and steam systems.
Maintain the EH&S requirements of the Con Edison control area.

Qualifications: The Transmission Planning Department is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and dedicated professional to join the Standards and Compliance team. The ideal candidate for this position must have fundamental knowledge and understanding of power transmission, distribution and generation principles. In addition, the ideal candidate must possess familiarity with electric reliability planning concepts. Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential. Must demonstrate strong attention to detail and have successful experience working in a team environment. Must demonstrate ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to exercise independent judgment. Must demonstrate ability to learn and apply new topics. Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Demonstrated performance of value-added assignments is required.

Requires a BS degree in Engineering and relevant work experience as follows:

  • Associate Engineer– 2 years work experience to include 1yr applicable engineering experience.
  • Engineer (2L) – 3 years applicable engineering experience.
  • Sr. Engineer (2H) – 8 years applicable engineering experience

Experience in drafting technical procedures, business process documents or specifications for the electric power industry is preferred. Familiarity with ISO or RTO rules is preferred. Familiarity with SharePoint or other document management and archiving software a plus.

Familiarity with North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Reliability Standards preferred. Preferred knowledge of the Con Edison electric service area transmission, distribution and power generating facilities. The S&TO organization pays particular attention to the attendance and performance records of all applicants. Responsibilities: Perform all day-to-day technical and administrative tasks associated with the Con Edison NERC Standards Compliance Program. Prepare audit document packages for submittal to the NPCC and participate in on-site, off-site and spot check audits. Ensure the timely, accurate and well-documented submittal of data to NPCC. Under the guidance of the Section Manager, review data submittals proposed by Company organizations to ensure adequacy and alignment with relevant NERC standards. Assist Company organizations in the development of compliance violation Mitigation Plans. Monitor and report on status of Mitigation Plan implementation. Conduct evaluations of various departments within Con Edison to ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards. Write procedures to detail and identify the functions of the Compliance Program. Become proficient in all NERC Standards and present and explain the NERC Standards to other Company organizations. Make Compliance Program presentations to various Company organizations and at the executive level.

Must be able to travel to various Company locations and to other companies if required. Must be available to travel out-of-town (including Canada) and represent the Company at ISO, NPCC and NERC meetings. Must have valid driver’s license.
